The 3D scanning capabilities of the Kinect have been front row in terms of displaying its numerous real-world applications. Being able to fully scan a 3D model of practically anything and then importing it into a 3D modelling solution or gaming engine lends itself to so many DIY projects that are cheap and practical.
Blender is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software product used for creating animated films, visual effects, interactive 3D applications or video games. The current release (stable) version is 2.60, and was released on October 19, 2011. Blender's features include 3D modelling, UV unwrapping, texturing, rigging and skinning, fluid and smoke simulation, particle simulation, animating, rendering, video editing and compositing.

There aren't very many instructional guides or videos out there that go into detail when describing how to take a kinect captured image, import it into blender and then map a texture to it. Trust me, I spent a lot of time looking around. That goes double for Mac users. I've never used Blender before and right away I can tell you it doesn't boast the most straight forward and easy to use interface that I've come across.
