Kinect Grocery CartPublished by admin on Mon, 27/02/2012 - 6:34pm
The Kinect wiz kids over in Redmond Washington are really flexing their Kinect SDK muscles with this one. All I know is that the near future will be full of automated personal assistants along this same vein and I can't freakin' wait! The project consists of a computerized grocery cart that is able to accept membership login credentials by scanning a card, brings up grocery lists (if available), receives and interpretes voice commands, scans the groceries you place in the cart and even recommends other food options based on your preferences -- in this demo for example, a gluten free option was recommended after the item was scanned.
The Kinect serves two main purposes in this demo. The first being able to accept voice commands and the second allows the cart to follow the shopper as they make their rounds. The demo is still a little rough around the edges but provides a great glimpse into the types of practical implementations the Kinect can server in our day-to-day lives.
