Realistic Object Interaction with Kinect and Augmented Reality Mircomachines GamePublished by admin on Fri, 27/01/2012 - 1:06pm
Some real cool AR stuff has been coming out recently. Kinected for instance is just one of the more recent projects to join the list of growing Kinect Augmented Reality development scene. This latest one brings me back to those good old NES days. I would jam this Micromachines game with my neighbour all the time. The race tracks were set up in environments like a kitchen or pool table and it was just so much fun. What this latest hack demonstrates is the ability to create your own Micromachines race track!
The developers are using a Kinect to scan a flat surface which has physical objects incorporated onto it. These objects act as ramps allowing the car being controlled to take jumps based on the height detected by the depth sensing camera. How cool is that! Set up a Kinect with your own "board" pieces and then race around with your friends in your own AR, custom built track!
